Borussia Supporters Clubs & The Fanprojekt (FP-MG-Supporterclub)

There are about 650 supporters clubs spread over Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and UK.
The Fanprojekt is an umbrella organisation for supporters (3.600 Members / Nov.07)  in individual groups to co-ordinate travel, ticket requests and other associated activities.

One of the more important aspects of our work is liaison with the German DFB and the police. In this respect we're similar to the FSA in Liverpool - but tied to the interests of one set of supporters. We are also committed to improving relations between rival sets of supporters and eradicating match-day violence. We are heavily supported by the club itself and have our own representative at Borussia. The Fanprojekt even has its own souvenir shop selling specific Fanprojekt merchandise.

The story of Fanprojekt (FP-MG-Supporterclub)

Who we are?
We are footballfans of the German football club Borussia Mönchengladbach !!!

What?
One of those drunken, crazy and shouting rowdies ??

No!! Just the opposite !

We would like to show the audience, that we are as normal people as they are and that we do not need any help by social studied people. At this point we're connected to a club with about 3.500 members it.

How did this happen?
Since the early 80's there have been instances of organising fans. In 1983 an interest group had been founded by fan clubs of Borussia Mönchengladbach. Later we developed the so called Fanprojekt Mönchengladbach e.V. What do we want to do?

  • Self organisation / Independence
  • Connecting the fans
  • Connecting fans and police
  • Reduction of anonymity
  • Contact to Borussia Mönchengladbach
  • Reduction of violence on our stands and outside
  • Publicity
What did we do?We founded the Fanprojekt. There is no problem becoming a member, but there are some rules, like no violence. For a year you have to pay 35,- €uro. Fanprojekt is lead by eight persons and many helpers.

Our friendships Liverpool FC:
The 'friendship' between Borussia Mönchengladbach and LFC has its official roots in the Hillsborough disaster nearly a decade ago. In June 1991  BMG fan clubs organised a series of events that raised 21,000 DM for the disaster fund, the cash being presented to Trevor Hicks, Ron Yeats an ex-director Sid Moss. We are proud of the fact that we are the first and only German supporters club to be united with Liverpool under the banner "You'll never walk alone". A year later, in August '92, 100 BMG fans visited Merseyside to pay their respects at the Hillsborough Memorial and stand on the Spion Kop. These visits usually coincided with fans' football games vs. the ISC or other Supporters Clubs. In 1994 we again made the lengthy trek to Anfield despite having no matches organised to show we want to build the friendship high and to party with our friends from the ISC. Just remember our visit in the pouring rain for draw with QPR. We brought 150 fans with us. In July 1995 the pre-season tournament in Mönchengladbach meant that the Reds could travel over to Germany and savour our hospitality. In the pubs and bars of Mönchengladbach the supporters of both teams were twinned in a big party. Now, we have been visited by the Reds several times. And still there is a friendship between us. Many 'Borussen' stand with Liverpool shirts and scarves in the 'Nordkurve' our stand. Join us, you will see!

Something about Borussia Mönchengladbach

Borussia VfL 1900 e.V. Mönchengladbach were founded in 1900 as a sports club and currently has 35.000 members.
Borussia is the latin word for Prussia (Preussen).
VfL means 'Club for Physical Culture' (Verein für Leibesübungen).
The team's nick-name is 'Die Fohlen' - the foals. The name comes from the early 70's and stems from the teams attacking and attractive style. The 12-0 win vs. Borussia Dortmund in 1978 is still the highest score ever in the Bundesliga!
Borussia's original club colours were the colours of black and white (Prussia). Green was added in 1970.
So is now black-with-green!

League Champions: 1970, 1971, 1975, 1976, 1977
DFB-Pokal (German Cup Winner): 1960, 1973, 1995
UEFA Cup: 1975, 1979
European Cup Finalists: 1977
